This lovely lodge takes its name from the grove of Camelthorn trees that offer welcome shade to the camp in the heat of the African day. With easy access to the game-rich Ngamo Plains, one of the most well-known areas of Hwange, this is an outstanding spot for safaris.
There are 8 spacious “Forest Villas” at Camelthorn Lodge, all of which have an upstairs decking area, complete with a comfortable hammock, perfect for afternoon siestas or, if you are feeling adventurous, a night sleeping under the stars. Downstairs there is a spacious bedroom and lounge area, with ceiling fans to help keep the rooms cool in summer and fireplaces which are very welcome on cold winter nights. En-suite bathrooms come with all of the amenities one could require and the rooms have fully-stocked minibars for in-room drinks. The main area of the lodge is a lovely space, with plenty of comfortable sofas for relaxing on, a dining room with 3 open fireplaces and an open-fronted bar which leads out to the firepit – the perfect spot for pre-dinner drinks.
Camelthorn offers guests a varied activities programme, including day and night time game drives, guided walks, trips to local schools and villages as well as “pump runs” which offer the chance to visit and resupply the pumping stations that keep Hwange’s waterholes filled.
