The home of Victoria Falls, hippo pools and incredible wildlife encounters
Spot crocodiles from a canoe, bag the Big Five, and visit the smoke that thunders on a tailor-made Zimbabwe safari.
It's nearly dawn out in the bush and as the mists begin to lift you become aware of the world around you. A lion roars in the distance, out hunting with the pride for a spot of breakfast, whilst a herd of buffalo lift their imperious heads in acknowledgement, continuing to munch their own. Today feels like the day you're going to spot the Big Five in Hwange National Park on your luxury Zimbabwe holiday. Two fish eagles glide silently by overhead and your guide whispers that if you're ever lost in the bush, seeing one of these majestic birds is a good sign. It means there is water nearby. Yet you know you'll never be lost on a tailor-made Zimbabwe safari. The guides here are so polite and friendly and know the bush like the backs of their hands.
Warming your hands around a steaming mug of coffee and feeling cosy wrapped up in a safari blanket, you feel privileged to be sharing this hidden part of Africa with the wildlife that lives here. The desk job seems a million miles away and you know you don't want to leave. Yet tomorrow brings more adventures, and you can't wait to try a canoe safari at Mana Pools and see who can spot the most hippos. There’s also a trip to see the thundering water at Victoria Falls where you'll be spending a couple of days at one of nature's greatest playgrounds. Perhaps you'll pluck up the courage to fly over the falls in a helicopter or microlight, or maybe you'll take a sunset steam train ride after an exciting day white water rafting. Finally for a bit of balance there are the ruins at Great Zimbabwe to explore, before relaxing on a Lake Kariba houseboat after all your adventures. You're beginning to realise that this is a land of incredible opportunities, and that you'll be dining out on tales of your luxury Zimbabwe holiday adventures for years to come.

Zimbabwe Trip Inspiration

Our Zimbabwe specialist, Alistair, says:
"Zimbabwe is such a rewarding country to visit because it brings together everything people dream of in Africa, but in a way that feels more personal and unhurried. The safaris are exceptional – intimate, expertly guided and often far from the crowds. Whether you’re exploring by vehicle, on foot, or drifting along the Zambezi. Add to that the sheer drama of Victoria Falls, a wealth of activities for all ages, and the warmth of Zimbabwean hospitality, and you’ve got a destination that works beautifully for couples, families or anyone looking for a deeper connection to the wild. It’s one of those places that stays with you long after you’ve left."

FAQs About Your Zimbabwe Holiday
Planning a holiday to Zimbabwe? Our experts share advice on everything from what to pack, when to go, to tips for families, covering the questions we get asked the most.
When is the best time to visit Zimbabwe?
The dry season from May to October is generally considered the best time to visit, as wildlife viewing is excellent and the weather is pleasant. Victoria Falls is most dramatic between February and May, just after the rains.
Do I need a visa to visit Zimbabwe?
Yes, most visitors need a visa to enter Zimbabwe, which can often be obtained online or on arrival. Requirements vary depending on your nationality, so it’s worth checking in advance.
Is Zimbabwe safe for tourists?
Zimbabwe is welcoming and safe for travellers, especially in main tourism areas such as Victoria Falls, Hwange, and Mana Pools. As with any destination, sensible precautions and using a trusted tour operator help ensure a smooth trip.
What wildlife can I see on safari in Zimbabwe?
Zimbabwe is home to elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, buffalo, wild dogs, hippos, and a huge variety of birdlife. Parks like Hwange and Mana Pools are especially known for their abundant wildlife.
How long should I spend in Zimbabwe?
We recommend at least 7–10 days to combine safari and Victoria Falls. Longer trips allow you to explore several national parks or link Zimbabwe with neighbouring countries like Botswana or Zambia.
What is the food like in Zimbabwe?
Food is varied and influenced by both African and European traditions. On safari, you can expect high-quality meals, often with locally sourced ingredients, while in towns you’ll find international options too.
Can I combine Zimbabwe with other countries?
Yes, Zimbabwe links easily with Botswana, Zambia, and South Africa. Victoria Falls is a common gateway for multi-country safaris.
What is the currency in Zimbabwe?
US dollars are widely accepted and often the preferred currency for travellers. Credit cards are increasingly accepted in lodges and hotels, though cash is useful for tips and smaller purchases.
Do I need vaccinations to travel to Zimbabwe?
A yellow fever certificate may be required if you’re arriving from certain countries. Other recommended vaccinations include hepatitis A, typhoid, and routine boosters. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly advised.
