Eco-friendly lodges

Discover the world's most eco-minded sustainable lodges and hotels who are not just reducing their environmental impact but ensuring they have a positive effect on the local landscape and empower local people.

We are lucky to work with some exceptional properties across the globe that are doing incredible work to make themselves more sustainable from using renewable energy and locally sourced food, to providing development opportunities for the local community to protecting their local environment whether it is through reducing poaching or working to increase wildlife numbers.

At Far and Wild, we have created our own carbon-scoring system called CarbonScored which allows us to accurately measure the impact of individual lodges. It takes into account the average occupancy of a property, where energy is sourced from, whether a swimming pool is heated, the amount of diesel used to power a safari camp’s electricity generator even how they source their water. But sustainability is about more than what a property uses, it is about what it invests back and so we also look at their community projects and biodiversity protection.

For a property to be considered sustainable, it must meet the following two criteria.

  • Their environmental impact was less than their country or regional average.
  • They are involved with sustainability projects to help benefit the local environment or surrounding communities.
