Mvuu Lodge

Situated to the south of Lake Malawi in the Liwonde National Park, Mvvu Lodge overlooks a lagoon of the Shire River, the main drainage river from Lake Malawi. Whether you're in your tented suite, walking through camp, at the pool, eating in the restaurant area or relaxing in the raised main lounge you will feel permanently "on safari". Wildlife roams freely (and somewhat confidently!) through camp. In this lush and fertile area, an excellent diversity of animals can be seen including large numbers of hippo or ‘Mvuu’, after which the lodge is named. This is more luxurious than the sister property nearby, Mvuu Camp, which offers the same activities.

Accommodation comprises eight tents, one of which is a romantic honeymoon suite. With a slightly rustic, homely and dark-wood vibe, you'll notice they've thought of everything. You can tell from the outset that they're well established and the staff are both entertaining and extremely knowledgeable. Each tent has en-suite bathroom facilities with indoor and outdoor showers. They also each have their own deck built to look over the water’s edge. Lodge facilities include a dining room, pub, lounge area and a swimming pool. The new star beds are located 4km north of the lodge and overlook the floodplains, providing excellent views and a memorable night under the stars.

Key activities at Mvuu Lodge include boat safaris, guided bush walks, birding and trips to nearby villages and Nanthomba School. The lodge also provides traditional day and night game drives, one of which takes you through the ESOM rhino sanctuary. The “rhino walk” offers the opportunity to view the endangered Black Rhino in its natural habitat. On request, guests can also visit one of the resident conservation projects to experience life as a wildlife researcher.
