Grootbos Forest Lodge is enviably located in the heart of the Grootbos Private Nature Reserve – a haven for nature lovers where a huge variety of land and water-based activities can be enjoyed. A short drive from the coastal town of Hermanus, this is also a great base for whale watching between July and November.
Each of the 16 freestanding one-bedroom suites has been exquisitely designed, with a very modern feel to them and stunning panoramic views out across the reserve. 2 of the suites also have private plunge pools which are very welcome on the hot summer days that the area revels in. They all have separate lounge areas, en-suite bathrooms with underfloor seating and even outdoor showers. The private verandas are a wonderful spot to relax and take in the glorious sea views. At the main part of the lodge there is a large swimming pool and sprawling deck, an indoor lounge area and a fantastic spa offering a wide range of treatments. The food is outstanding, with many of the ingredients sourced from their on-site farm, so the dishes are all wonderfully fresh.
A stay at Grootbos comes with a comprehensive range of inclusive activities, with guided nature drives and walks, trips to the coast and birdwatching drives all very popular. With Hermanus so close by whale watching trips are of course possible and they can also arrange scenic flights over Walker Bay.
