A unmissable experience at a well-appointed, pioneering mountain lodge
Location
Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge is located in the Rushaga sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, perched on a hillside overlooking lush valleys and terraced farmland. Its elevated position provides panoramic views of the surrounding forest and the Virunga volcanoes. The lodge offers immediate access to gorilla trekking trails while immersing guests in the serene beauty of one of Uganda’s most iconic conservation areas.
Rooms
Accommodation comprises 14 luxury bandas and suites, built using natural materials that blend with the forest environment. Each unit includes en-suite facilities, large beds with mosquito nets, indoor seating areas and private decks with sweeping views over the mountains and forest. Interiors are simple yet elegant, combining comfort with a strong sense of place.
Facilities
The lodge features a central dining room and lounge with panoramic views, perfect for breakfast, dinner, or evening drinks. An outdoor terrace allows guests to enjoy the scenery, while a small spa and massage service provides relaxation after trekking. Communal areas are designed to maximise forest views and create a tranquil, intimate atmosphere.
Activities
The lodge’s main focus is mountain gorilla trekking, with guided forest treks departing directly from Rushaga sector trailheads. Other activities include birdwatching, guided forest walks, cultural visits to local communities, and short hikes in surrounding valleys. The lodge can also arrange visits to nearby Batwa villages to learn about indigenous culture.
Sustainability
The lodge works closely with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), the statutory body responsible for managing protected areas, to support responsible tourism practices and wildlife protection, particularly for endangered mountain gorillas and the rich assemblage of forest species that define this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its position adjacent to the forest edge reinforces the importance of low‑impact operations.
