Excellent accommodation, wonderful experiences and superb hospitality
This little gem on the shore of remote Lake Mutanda, one of East Africa’s most beautiful lakes, is ideally located for those wanting to experience Bwindi, the Virungas and Mt Gahinga. The property is quirky, arty and vibrant; positioned so as to maximise great views of the Virungas and the lake.
Accommodation is in the form of 10 en-suite chalets, each uniquely designed in terms of décor, and all have a private veranda with picturesque views of the lake. The spacious dining area, with an adjacent wooden deck on a hilltop, offers a bird’s eye-view over the lake and beyond. The colourfully decorated lounge has a fireplace for chilly nights and comfortable armchairs.
There are some truly special gorilla and monkey tracking experiences on offer with Chameleon Hill Lodge, including the Gorilla Experience which involves a full day of trekking with rangers, conservationists, researches and trackers and four hours with a gorilla family. This experience gets booked up quickly as only four people are allowed per group, creating a much more intimate experience. Massage treatments are also on offer at the lodge, and guests can enjoy boat trips on the lake. The lodge owners have started an NGO: The Lake Mutanda Education, Health, and Environment Project. It is in the process of establishing a Health Clinic and a dedicated teaching facility that is adequately resourced with teachers and educational provisions and equipment. It is also involved with reforestation in the Bwindi area.
