Beautifully appointed rooms with incredible views of the Kidepo Valley
Location
Apoka Safari Lodge sits in the heart of Kidepo Valley National Park, overlooking the wildlife-rich Narus Valley in Uganda’s remote north-east. Surrounded by sweeping savannah plains and rugged mountain ranges, the lodge occupies one of the park’s most scenic locations. Its position deep inside the reserve allows wildlife to roam close by, with frequent sightings of buffalo, elephants and giraffes across the valley below.
Rooms
Accommodation consists of 10 spacious canvas-walled chalets, including six double and four twin rooms, built around rocky kopjes and designed to blend into the landscape. Each features large hand-carved beds with mosquito nets, en-suite bathrooms, indoor sitting areas and private verandas overlooking the savannah. A standout feature is the outdoor stone bathtub, carved from local rock, allowing guests to soak while watching wildlife across the plains.
Facilities
The lodge’s main area sits on raised wooden decking beneath a thatched roof, offering panoramic views across the park. Facilities include a large swimming pool carved directly from natural rock, a restaurant serving freshly prepared meals, a well-stocked bar, and comfortable lounge areas for relaxing between safaris. A small spa, library and Wi-Fi are also available, creating a comfortable yet understated base in this remote wilderness setting.
Activities
Activities focus on exploring the remarkable landscapes and wildlife of Kidepo. Guests can enjoy morning and evening game drives, guided walking safaris, and birdwatching across the plains, which are home to hundreds of species. Cultural visits to nearby Karamojong and IK communities offer insight into the traditions of the region, while bush breakfasts and sundowners provide memorable safari moments in the wild.
Sustainability
Apoka Safari Lodge plays an important role in supporting conservation in one of Africa’s most remote parks. Tourism revenue contributes to anti-poaching efforts, wildlife protection and employment for local communities, while the lodge itself is built using natural materials designed to blend with the surrounding landscape. A portion of each stay supports conservation initiatives through the WildPlaces Conservation Foundation.
