Experience unrivalled views of the national park in a beautifully and sympathetically designed safari camp.
Location
Baker’s Lodge sits on the southern bank of the River Nile, just outside the boundary of Murchison Falls National Park near Mubako Gate. Set among shady trees and riverine wetlands, the lodge enjoys sweeping views across the water where hippos, elephants and abundant birdlife are often seen along the banks. Its position makes it a convenient base for exploring both the savannah plains and the famous falls.
Rooms
Accommodation consists of 10 spacious thatched safari suites, each raised on wooden platforms with a private deck overlooking the Nile. The suites combine canvas, wood and local materials, with large beds draped in mosquito nets, handcrafted furniture and open-plan en-suite bathrooms with solar-heated showers. Some units also feature freestanding bathtubs with river views, allowing guests to relax while watching wildlife along the water.
Facilities
The central lodge area is built on raised wooden decking beneath a thatched roof, offering panoramic views over the Nile. Facilities include a restaurant and bar serving multi-course meals, relaxed lounge areas, a swimming pool overlooking the river, and a small curio shop selling local crafts. Wi-Fi is available in the main areas, and dining can be enjoyed al fresco on the deck or beside the river.
Activities
Guests can explore Murchison Falls National Park through a range of safari experiences. Game drives across the Buligi plains reveal elephants, lions, giraffes and antelope, while boat cruises along the Nile lead to the base of the dramatic Murchison Falls. Other activities include birdwatching, sport fishing for Nile perch, chimpanzee trekking in nearby Budongo Forest and guided visits to the top of the falls.
Sustainability
The lodge’s Responsible Tourism Policy, championed through its Future Generations Trust, channels part of every guest booking into initiatives designed to protect biodiversity and empower local people. Over 95 per cent of staff are Ugandan, with employment and training prioritised for people from surrounding villages to build skills in hospitality and guiding. Through the Future Generations Trust, Baker’s Lodge also supports community‑led projects such as the Ishasha Community Uplift Group, rural training schemes, educational outreach and cultural tourism products, and encourages guests to experience authentic community tours that generate direct income for local families. The lodge’s engagement with wider conservation efforts, including support for the Uganda Conservation Foundation and youth wildlife clubs, further ensures tourism here contributes positively to protecting wildlife, fostering environmental stewardship and strengthening community well‑being in and around the park.
