An exceptional place to see wildlife

The River Nile boat trip culminating at the base of the powerful falls is an unforgettable experience.

Enjoy a tailor made Murchison Falls holiday in Uganda's largest national park, which measures approximately 3,840 square kilometres. It lies at the northern end of the Albertine Rift Valley, where the bulky Bunyoro escarpment merges into the vast plains of Acholi land. The park is bisected by the Victoria Nile which first races down 80km of white-water rapids before plunging 40m over the remnant rift valley wall at Murchison Falls, the centre piece of the park.

The Falls drain the last of the river's energy, transforming it into a broad, placid stream that flows quietly across the rift valley floor for 55km to Lake Albert. This stretch of river provides one of Uganda's most memorable wildlife viewing locations.

Regular visitors include elephant, giraffe and buffalo while hippopotamus and Nile crocodile are permanent residents. In Murchison there are four of the "big five" - buffaloes, elephants, lions, and leopards are more easily seen in the northern part (above the Nile). Due to excessive hunting and poaching, rhinos sadly became extinct in 1983, but were re-introduced in 2005 by Rhino Fund Uganda. White rhinos are now being bred again and you can see them on a Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary tour, which is found 70 km south of the park. Their mission is to reintroduce small herds of rhinos (around five at a time), whilst retaining a nucleus breeding herd in the sanctuary.

Hot air balloon rides are offered at Baker's Lodge, with glorious sunrise views of either the Falls or the delta, depending on wind conditions. The perfect way to end your safari in Murchison Falls National Park.
