Semliki Game Reserve, Uganda's oldest protected area, is at the southern shore of Lake Albert. Habitats range from tropical rainforest to open acacia woodland and savannah, and on clear days, visitors can marvel at vistas of the Rwenzori Mountains. Notable mammal species include buffalo, elephants, and Uganda kob, and both day and nocturnal game drives are permitted in the reserve. The Mugiri River Forest is also known for its habituated chimpanzee population, and the nearby Sempaya Hot Springs are worth a visit too on a tailor made Semliki safari holiday.
Bird watching tours in Semliki National Park are popular with visitors, and there are over 400 species found here, including the pre-historic looking Shoebill.
