One of Uganda's three UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Go hiking in the 'Mountains of the Moon' where the rugged wilderness punctuated with giant lobelias makes for a tranquil yet exciting trip.
One of Uganda’s World Heritage Sites, the ‘Mountains of the Moon’ are a rugged range along the DR Congo border, with two thirds located in Uganda. The continent’s highest mountain range includes its third highest (and Uganda’s highest) peak, Mt Stanley, looming at 5,109m. Lower elevation slopes are clad in moorland and Afro-montane forest which are inhabited by most of the 240 bird species recorded in the park. Colobus and Blue monkeys frequent the treetops. At higher elevations you'll find impressive bamboo forests and thickets as well as rocky outcrops, streams and bogs. Visitors are always awestruck by the Afro-alpine habitat in these stunning mountains, especially the giant lobelias and heathers that are punctuated by orchids and other colourful flowers.
Hikers, trekkers and anyone looking for tranquillity in exquisite surrounds will be in their element on a tailor made Rwenzori Mountains holiday. We can organise guided walks and treks into these fascinating mountains, and one thing is for sure, you’re not going to be waiting to summit like on Everest, and it won't be as busy as trekking up Kilimanjaro. In fact you will be unlikely to see any other tourists. In all, a visit to the Rwenzori Mountains is a great getaway to a very different part of Africa.
