The economic and social hubs of Uganda.

See tombs and mosques on a Kampala city tour, and visit a wildlife centre and Ngamba Island near Entebbe.

Whilst Kampala is Uganda’s capital city, the international airport is actually about 25 minutes away from the city of Entebbe, right on the shores of Lake Victoria. Most Uganda holidays start and end in Entebbe. There are various hotels in which to overnight in Entebbe whilst waiting for a flight departure or late evening arrival. It is also home to a relatively good local wildlife conservation centre and the departure point for Ngamba Island. There isn’t much more to see in Entebbe but it’s a nice spot to take in the Lake and relax after a long flight.

Kampala is much larger and busier. It’s a friendly place but as with all African cities Kampala becomes a different beast after dark so common sense must prevail at all times. Originally built on and around seven hills, Kampala's subsequent expansion now includes several more hills. The best known places to visit on a Kampala city tour are the Kasubi Tombs, of historical and spiritual significance for the Ganda people and a remarkable World Heritage Site. The Gaddafi Mosque and the Baha'i House of Worship are also worth a visit.

Inevitably, during a stay in the capital, you will have the chance to visit some of its lively markets and malls, and also sample some local cuisine and music in recommended restaurants and bars.
