Although not the official capital city in Tanzania, Dar es Salaam is the hub of pretty much everything else. The international airport is here, as are the headquarters of Tanzanian commerce. It’s a busy fishing port and offers access to all the main tourism destinations. The city has a merciless traffic issue and is also Tanzania’s most populous city, so it's not a place where you would really want to spend more time than you need to. It’s main claim to fame is being the largest and most populous Swahili speaking city in the world.
