Dar es Salaam Hotels

Although not the official capital city in Tanzania, Dar es Salaam is the hub of pretty much everything else. The international airport is here, as are the headquarters of Tanzanian commerce. It’s a busy fishing port and offers access to all the main tourism destinations. The city has a merciless traffic issue and is also Tanzania’s most populous city, so it's not a place where you would really want to spend more time than you need to. It’s main claim to fame is being the largest and most populous Swahili speaking city in the world.

Dar es Salaam is usually only visited as an overnight stop before a safari or beach holiday to the southern part of Tanzania and there are several luxury Dar es Salaam hotels on offer as well as more budget options to suit every traveller. There are very nice beaches to the north and south of the city fringed with boutique beach hotels and palm trees. The city is fairly multi-cultural, with both ethnic and international cuisine on offer and quite a lively night life. If you have a few hours to spare you can visit a number of museums to learn more about the history of Dar es Salaam, and Tanzania.
