Ngorongoro Crater Safaris

Popularly known as the eighth wonder of the world, the remarkable Ngorongoro crater is the largest intact crater in the world. Measuring 16 kilometres in diameter and surrounded by walls over 600 metres high, Ngorongoro is a spectacular wildlife hotspot with over 25,000 large mammals. Its UNESCO World Heritage Status is well deserved.

Situated in the north of Tanzania adjacent to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro offers breath-taking crater panoramas as well as some of the best wildlife viewing in Tanzania, including the ‘Big Five’, with the elusive Black Rhino making an appearance if you are lucky.

The wildlife on the crater floor is as impressive as the views from the rim itself, with an unparalleled concentration of animals including one of the densest predator populations in Africa. Terrain is made up of grasslands, swamps and acacia woodland, with steep walls that soar upwards to the rim, making a natural barrier for the animals.

The crater floor is not the only attraction on a tailor made Ngorongoro Crater safari, and other impressive sights include Olduvai Gorge (the cradle of mankind) and the Crater Highlands, which are a collection of extinct volcanoes and calderas (collapsed volcanoes) bordered by the dramatic Rift Valley escarpment to the east.
