The perfect safari holiday in Tarangire National Park

Often overlooked Tarangire National Park has stunning landscape studded with Baobab trees and large numbers of elephants

Tarangire is the least visited of the Northern Circuit safari national parks, and its thick grasses and giant baobab trees imbue it with a wild feel. It is best visited during the dry season months of July to October, when the wildlife population swells with enormous herds of elephant, buffalo, zebra, as well as rhino, greater kudu, leopard, lion, rhino, oryx, impala and giraffe. They are attracted here from miles around to the permanent waters of the Tarangire river. The park is also home to some 500 species of birds making it one of the best places in Tanzania for bird-watching.

The most rewarding area to see wildlife on a luxury Tarangire safari holiday is the northern triangle with its mix of open grassland, light woodland and dry riverbeds along which herds of elephants like to meander. To the south it becomes more swampy and predators lie in wait in the long grass for their prey to come and drink.
