Golden monkeys, deep gorges and extinct volcanoes
Perched high up in the clouds, Uganda’s smallest national park is arguably its most dramatic.
Mgahinga is Uganda's smallest national park, but it’s also one of its most beautiful. Right on the border with Rwanda, a striking feature of the park is three of the imposing, extinct Virunga volcanoes. Altitudes range from 2,227 - 4,127m above sea level, so the park supports a variety of ecosystems.
Guests can enjoy a morning walk in search of a group of habituated golden monkeys and keen birders and nature enthusiasts can venture deep into Mt. Sabinyo’s gorge. The trail takes you through a variety of habitats during its ascent, from former farmland and montane heath, to bamboo and Afro-alpine moorland.
Aside from various walks on offer on a tailor made Mgahinga National Park holiday, during which guests can search for the abundant and diverse birdlife, there are longer and more challenging hikes. If you fancy summiting an extinct volcano, you might like to climb Mount Muhabura or Mount Sabyinyo.
