A small national park with huge biodiversity.
Once covered by open savannah, the absence of Elephants makes it an ideal place for walking safaris and other exciting safari experiences.
Lake Mburo is the largest of the five lakes within this national park that consists of open savannah, acacia woodland and swamps. A good range of wildlife can be seen on boat trips, nature walks or game drives on a tailor made Lake Mburo safari. For birders Lake Mburo National Park is the best area for African finfoot, as well as six papyrus endemics including the brilliantly coloured papyrus gonolek.
Lake Mburo National Park is the only reserve in the country to support a population of Impala, and it is one of the only few protected areas in the country where Burchell's zebra occur. The park is home to a small number of Rothschild's giraffe, as well as hippo, eland, Burchell's zebra, Defassa waterbuck, reedbuck and oribi. Predators include leopard and hyena. Lake Mburo bird watching tours appear on most birding itineraries as it is the country's sole location for some acacia savannah specialist species such as Red-faced barbet.
Once covered by open savannah, the absence of elephants makes it an ideal place for walking safaris and other interesting safari experiences such as horse-riding, bush cycling, game drives (day and night) and boat trips on the lake.
