Zanzibar is an amazing location for water based activities. Some of the more adventurous activities, like windsurfing and kitesurfing, have age restrictions, but there are many alternatives suitable for younger children, such as kayaking and boat trips. Most, if not all, of the hotels on the island provide access to PADI diving centres, many of which can cater to children as you as eight. Many of the coral reefs are protected marine parks, providing an excellent educational opportunity for older children to see the rich life the Indian Ocean has to offer.
Zanzibar also has many land-based attractions including the Jozani National Forest and its population of Red Colobus monkeys, and Stone Town which is bursting with exotic culture and fascinating Swahili history. You can of course simply sit on the beach and bask in the hot African sun while the kids take part in activities organised by the hotel Kids Club!
