Spectacular accommodation on a relaxed Zanzibari island

A romantic destination providing space to relax and a variety of water sports to enjoy

Location: Just 1.5 km in circumference, Mnemba Island is a tiny, private island off the north-eastern tip of Zanzibar. Surrounded by coral reefs and white sand beaches, it’s only accessible by boat, a truly secluded retreat ideal for honeymoons and romantic escapes.

Rooms: There are just 11 spacious beachside bandas (bungalows), each crafted from local materials like thatched palm leaves and timber. Every banda opens directly onto the beach and includes a large outdoor veranda, en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, and ceiling fans for a cool, natural breeze. Interiors are rustic-chic, offering laid-back comfort with effortless elegance.

Amenities: Guest areas are open-sided to make the most of the sea breeze and views. There’s a small library with wildlife books, board games and magazines, and the lodge includes a relaxed dining area where fresh, locally inspired dishes are served daily. A small beachside spa offers massages and restorative treatments in total tranquillity.

Activities: Mnemba Island is all about relaxed freedom. All water activities including snorkelling, kayaking, paddle boarding, scuba diving and windsurfing are included. The coral reefs here are exceptional, and the warm, clear waters make swimming a joy.

Sustainability: Mnemba is run by &Beyond, a company known for its strong conservation ethos. The lodge uses local materials, supports marine conservation efforts and works closely with surrounding communities on health, education and sustainable tourism initiatives.

March

In March Zanzibar experiences a period of long rains - showers become more frequent and it can be very wet from the middle of March.

The long rains make April a mixed month to travel, as beaches along the Indian Coastline become very hot and wet. Activities like scuba diving take a turn, with water clarity decreasing due to the weather. We would recommend not travelling during this time.

May

Temperatures during May are high, with strong winds and continual rainfall. If you travel during this time you won't witness the best of Zanzibar.

June, the wet season is finally over, temperatures are cooler making it a beautiful time to lounge on the beach or explore the culturally rich Stone Town. Sporadic rainfall may occur across the month.

July

Dry season is in full swing, with consistent weather over this period with little wind and low rainfall. Diving is good during July with clarity levels increasing.

November brings the arrival of the summer rains and winds, but if you're a keen fisherman, billfish season kicks off. Otherwise, it is the best time to swim with the mighty whale shark and to go coral reef diving.
