In itself, Aus is an unremarkable desert town, with a nod towards German colonialism being its main hallmark, like so many in Namibia. However, a tailor made Aus holiday is a popular stopping point on the Southern loop through Namibia for two reasons, one being the chance to see the small population of feral horses that live in the desert just outside the town. The main reason however for a stop here is the presence of nearby Kolmanskop, an old diamond mining town, long abandoned and being rapidly reclaimed by the shifting sands of the Namib Desert.
