Argentina’s family-friendly infrastructure makes travelling with kids relatively easy - domestic flights are frequent, hotels are welcoming to younger guests, and private guides or self-drive options allow for flexibility. Families can learn to tango in Buenos Aires, ride horses on a traditional estancia, or boat beneath one of the largest waterfalls in the world. FAQs About Your Argentina Family Holidays Holiday
Planning a holiday to Argentina Family Holidays? Our experts share advice on everything from what to pack, when to go, to tips for families, covering the questions we get asked the most.
Is Argentina a good destination for families?
Yes, Argentina works beautifully for families, especially those with older children or teens. Wildlife spotting in Ibera, horseback riding in the Pampas, and boat trips at Iguazú Falls create shared adventures, while Buenos Aires adds a cultural twist with tango shows and lively markets. With family-friendly estancias and lodges offering space, comfort, and activities for all ages, it’s a destination that blends discovery with ease.
How easy is it to travel around Argentina with children?
Argentina has good infrastructure for families. Domestic flights connect major highlights quickly, and you can choose between private guides for a seamless experience or self-drive for more flexibility.
Can wildlife experiences be included in a family holiday in Argentina?
Absolutely. Whale watching in Peninsula Valdés, spotting penguins along the coast, or seeing condors soar above the Andes are just a few of the unforgettable wildlife encounters that families love to share together.
What time of year is best to visit Argentina with children?
Most families travel during school holidays, particularly Easter and Christmas. The UK Summer holidays can work if you’re after winter sports in Bariloche or adventures further north, such as Salta, the Iberá wetlands, or Iguazú, but otherwise it’s not ideal. Easter is ideal for many destinations including the far south in Patagonia.
Do we need travel insurance & health precautions?
We are not medical specialists and would always advise speaking to your GP or a registered travel health clinic at least 8 weeks before you travel to ensure you have accurate advice. Please be aware that even within a country the advice varies from region to region so we strongly suggest speaking to a medical professional.
Is Argentina safe for families, especially in big cities and remote areas?
Your safety is always our top priority and our team are always happy to spend time answering any questions or concerns, just give one of our experts a call on 0203 111 1315. We only sell destinations and experiences that are considered safe for travel at the time of booking. However, situations can change, so we always recommend checking the latest guidance from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) before you travel. We also encourage you to follow any local advice while abroad and take out comprehensive travel insurance for peace of mind.
How much travel time & internal transport should we prepare for?
Argentina is large, so internal flights are often the best option between highlights. Buses are comfortable and great where flights aren’t available, for example the ones connecting Argentina and Chile, in the far south (El Calafate to Puerto Natales), or far north (Salta to San Pedro de Atacama).
What should children pack & how to prepare for varying climates?
Packing for Argentina means variety. In tropical regions (north/Iguazú) you’ll need light clothes, good sun protection, and insect repellent. In Patagonia and the high Andes, warm layers, waterproof gear and sturdy footwear are essential. Also pack entertainment (books, games) for long transfers, and snacks.
