The thrill of tracking lions and wild dog on foot is not to be missed
Location
Luwi sits beside the seasonal Luwi River, deep within the untamed beauty of South Luangwa National Park and completely secluded from other camps. It can be reached by a scenic two-hour drive from Mfuwe Airport.
Rooms
With just five reed-and-thatch chalets, Luwi feels intimately connected to the environment. Each tent is beautifully simple, built around ancient mahogany trees and gently raised above the earth. We love the open-air en-suite bathrooms and polished mud floors. Waking up in one of these spaces, with sunlight filtering through the canopy, is something special.
Amenities
The shared lounge and dining area under old trees feels like a natural extension of the bush. You can relax by the firepit at sunset, enjoy an outdoor dinner under the stars, or sit quietly in the hide overlooking a hippo-strewn lagoon.
Activities
Luwi is made for walking safaris. Expert guides lead you on foot through riverine forests and open plains, where wildlife sightings range from elephants and hippos by day to lions under the stars. There are also game drives and the chance for a truly unforgettable sleep-out beneath Africa’s Milky Way. With only a handful of guests per camp, each outing feels private and deeply immersive.
Sustainability
The camp is seasonal and solar-powered, built using natural materials, and committed to sustainable practices. Every stay supports the Time + Tide Foundation, which works on conservation education, female empowerment, healthcare, and community projects through partnerships with Chipembele Wildlife Education Trust and Conservation South Luangwa.
