Scuba Diving in São Tomé and Príncipe

Beyond the beaches, where turtles sometimes come ashore to nest, humpback whales are a common summer sight, drawn with their calves to the warm, sheltered waters of the bay.

You can find grouper in deep water, as well as a variety of rays. Octopi and eels are abundant, as well as fantastic reef fish of all sorts. Many animals here are found nowhere else in the world.

Flying above the seas you may see the African grey parrot, widely appreciated as one of the most intelligent animals in the world. They are highly endangered because of the pet trade.

You will embark on dives from Bom Bom Resort’s PADI certified Dive Centre.

Within a few minutes of being in the water, you’ll be diving amongst snapper, parrot fish, barracuda, nurse sharks, moray eels, turtles, gorgonian sea fans and volcanic boulders covered in colourful yellow, orange and red hard corals.

The visibility on the islands is clearest from December to March, and you can expect lovely warm water during this time. Year-round diving is possible.
