Location
Situated on a private island within the 35,000-hectare Khwai Community Concession, Machaba lies adjacent to the Moremi Game Reserve in the northeastern part of Botswana's Okavango Delta. Its riverine setting provides sweeping views of the Khwai River floodplains, with wildlife moving freely between the concession and the reserve. The camp is accessible via a 30-minute flight from Maun followed by a short game drive transfer.
Rooms
The camp comprises four Meru-style canvas tents - two standard and two family suites - each raised on wooden decks and connected by walkways through the trees. Tents feature en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, flush toilets, and double vanities. Private verandas offer outdoor bathtubs and shaded seating areas, ideal for wildlife viewing or relaxation.
Amenities
The main lodge area includes a lounge, dining space, library, and bar, all set on raised decks overlooking the floodplain. A swimming pool provides respite during warmer hours, while an outdoor boma hosts evening campfires under the stars. Guests can also enjoy spa treatments and curated bush dinners in various scenic locations.
Activities
Machaba offers a diverse range of activities: morning and afternoon game drives, night drives, guided bush walks, mokoro (dugout canoe) excursions, and cultural visits to nearby villages. The Khwai region is renowned for its rich biodiversity, including elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, African wild dogs, and over 400 bird species.
Sustainability
Operating within a community-run concession, Machaba supports local employment and conservation initiatives. The camp is designed to minimise environmental impact, utilising solar power and eco-friendly practices, ensuring a sustainable and responsible safari experience.
