Jungle Tide

A Luxury Homestay in the heart of the rural Hanthana Mountains.

Get away from the bustle of Kandy at this tranquil British run lodge

Ranked 5th out of over 500 guest houses and B&B's in the Kandy area on Trip Advisor

Set in the heart of the Hanthana Mountains, a land of jaw dropping mountain views, tea plantations and enduring colonial legacy, Jungle Tide is a small intimate British run homestay. Born and brought up in Sri Lanka, owner Sally, a fourth-generation member of a tea plantation family creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere with her enthusiasm and local stories. The intimate connection between guests, the owners Jerry and Sally and staff members is what makes this property so special and a true immersive Sri Lankan experience.

Around Jungle Tide you'll discover mangoes, avocados, starfruit and a lemon tree - or as Sally and Jerry like to call it, their Gin and Tonic tree. The fruit trees and the vegetable garden provide shade and incredible crops for guests to enjoy. The large gardens and stream surrounding the homestay are teaming with birds and wildlife and there's a large outdoor swimming pool, perfect for cooling down on humid summer days. Guest can enjoy three rooms located in the guest wing, each with an en-suite, private veranda overlooking the lush forest gardens and high quality furnishings with luxury raw silks. The fourth room at Jungle Tide is in the gardens of the property, accommodating up to six people with bunk beds, a double bed, attached bathroom, mini fridge and a kettle, perfect for families wanting their own place in paradise.

A big part of Jungle Tide involves guests dining around a large table in the evenings, exchanging tales and anecdotes, recommendations and discussing the history, culture and politics of Sri Lanka. This key experience provides a friendly inclusive atmosphere with constant interactions between guests and owners, making it feel like a large family home. The curries by Rani are legendary and Sally's puddings are a reason to return! They use eggs from their own free range hens, and there are often lots of homemade jams and pickles on offer, to go with the freshly baked bread. Activities at Jungle Tide range from guided trekking through the tea plantations and Hanthana Mountains, day trips to cultural Kandy just 12km away and visiting traditional Sri Lankan village communities.
