Established by British coffee and tea planters in the late 19th century, the Hill Club is a private gentleman's club in the lush green hills of Nuwara Eliya, and a stylishly colonial and slightly quirky place to stay during your time here.
It has 39 comfortably furnished rooms, numerous dining options, a reading room and a billiard room equipped with two full-sized tables. Both Sri Lankan and Western cuisine is on offer, and room service is available for those who want to relax. There is a dress-code for the some of the dining areas and lounges, but if you find you've forgotten to pack your jackets and ties don't worry, you can borrow them from the Club Wardrobe! There's also a stylish men's lounge bar offering a wide selection of wines and spirits.
Formerly the venue for the Ceylon Tennis Nationals, the Hill Club boasts four very fine clay courts, as well as a fitness centre, bicycle rental and table-tennis facilities. Nuwara Eliya is one of the most popular destinations in Sri Lanka, with plenty of tea plantations to visit, as well as golfing, horse racing, fishing and trekking all available from the Hill Club.
