A real bush camp experience without sacrificing comfort or luxury
Location
Mchenja Camp sits on a curve of the Luangwa River in one of the most wildlife-rich corners of South Luangwa National Park. It’s a wonderfully peaceful spot - quiet, remote, with elephants sometimes wandering past as you sip your morning coffee.
Rooms
There are just four tented suites here, plus one larger two-bedroom family suite, all beautifully styled with soft natural materials and open-plan design. Each suite opens onto a private deck with river views, and we love the indulgent bathtubs positioned to soak while watching the world drift by.
Amenities
The main area is built around a fallen ebony tree, giving it a lovely sense of place. You’ll find a small plunge pool to cool off during the heat of the day, and mealtimes are a highlight. Dinners are often served under the stars, with candlelight flickering and wildlife calling in the distance.
Activities
This is one of the best places in the park for walking safaris, and you’ll be in expert hands with Time + Tide’s guiding team. Morning walks and afternoon game drives often lead to thrilling encounters - leopards, wild dogs, elephants and lion sightings are all possible here. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even sleep out on the open plain under the stars.
Sustainability
Time + Tide has long been committed to conservation and community. At Mchenja, the lodge runs on solar power and is built to leave a light footprint. Staying here also supports the Time + Tide Foundation’s work in education, conservation and local livelihoods, including anti-poaching patrols, youth scholarships, and reforestation projects that help protect this precious ecosystem for generations to come.
