A gentle step into the African experience with flexibility of how opened or closed you wish your bush suite to be. Perfect for both first time and regular visitors to the bush.
Location
Luangwa River Camp sits quietly on the banks of the Luangwa River, looking across to South Luangwa National Park’s game-rich Wafwa area. This is one of those rare spots where you can simply sit and watch the wildlife drift by - elephants at the water’s edge, hippos wading through shallows, and the occasional giraffe stepping out of the trees. It’s peaceful, wild, and beautifully placed for a truly immersive safari.
Rooms
There are just five suites here, designed to feel both elegant and grounded in nature. Solid brick walls and high thatched roofs keep things cool, while sliding doors open onto private decks where you can relax with a view of the bush. Inside, we love the sunken bathtubs looking out into the wild, perfect for a post-game-drive soak. It’s simple, stylish, and deeply comfortable without losing that authentic bush-camp feel.
Amenities
The camp’s central lounge and dining space are set across multiple timber decks, all raised to make the most of the views. There’s a double plunge pool to cool off in, shaded seating for lazy afternoons, and dinner is often served outside under the stars.
Activities
Days start early with expertly guided game drives and walking safaris, and finish with sundowners by the river or night drives in search of leopard and hyena. You can also visit local communities and conservation projects nearby. What guests really love is the small-group feel, with a maximum of six people per activity, so it always feels personal.
Sustainability
Luangwa River Camp is deeply committed to protecting the extraordinary ecosystems of South Luangwa. It supports the South Luangwa Conservation Society (now Conservation South Luangwa), contributing vital funds for anti-poaching patrols, snare removal, wildlife monitoring, and community outreach programmes across the valley. Also, part of the conservation levy supports education, veterinary care, borehole drilling, and human-wildlife conflict mitigation via community resource boards and veterinary clinics.
