Londolozi Pioneer Camp Private Dinner

Londolozi Private Game Reserve

First game reserve in the world to be accorded Relais & Châteaux status

five camps offering travellers different experiences

The word londolozi comes from the Zulu word and means ‘protector of all living things’.

Londolozi is one of South Africa’s original private game reserves. Londolozi is situated on the Sand River at the heart of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve within the Greater Kruger National Park. A pillar of global ecotourism, they are also a proudly family-run business. The reserve has been lauded internationally for its far-sighted and progressive land and wildlife management, as well as its productive community involvement. In 1993, Londolozi became the first game reserve in the world to be accorded Relais & Châteaux status. Relais & Châteaux has become a global icon for quality in the hotel and restaurant world. The association’s mission is to spread its unique art de vivre worldwide by selecting outstanding properties with a truly unique character.

No two days are the same at Londolozi and the experience is tailored to suit individual preferences and expectations. Life at Londolozi is dictated by the seasons; the vegetation and the animal behaviour shift with the rains of summer and the chill of winter. Sunrise and sunset game drives at Londolozi are taken by professional, passionate and knowledgeable rangers and trackers, who have 350 years of experience between them. With over 16,000 hectares of traversing wilderness, no two game drives are ever the same. You can pre-book your gear for a photographic safari by renting a multitude of professional level photographic bodies, lenses and accessories. The wellness centre offers massages, yoga and a fitness centre. Enjoy wholesome, sustainable, superb cuisine throughout Londolozi Camps.

Each of the five camps dotted along the reserve, offer travellers a different experience. Three of the five camps are part of the Relais & Châteaux group of elite properties, with the Private Granite Suites the pinnacle of the Londolozi portfolio. All suites have private plunge pools and exude an air of exclusive luxury, but the following paragraphs will help you differentiate between them.

The three Private Granite Suites with bold materials and silver, charcoal and elephant grey palette don’t allow children under the age of 16 unless they are taken for exclusive use. The suites convey Africa’s raw essence with a contemporary and elegant flavour.

At Tree Camp the six modern suites are deep in the tree canopy, combining a similar minimalist style with nature and bush elements, also not allowing children under 16 unless taken for exclusive use. Nestled in the leadwood tree canopy, this lodge is a sanctuary of elegance and simplicity.

However, the three suites at Pioneer Camp can be used for both families and couples. Pioneer Camp is the most secluded of Londolozi’s camps, with ‘bush home’ style suites amongst 500-year old ebony trees, generous in size, the culmination of four decades of design experience in the safari industry. Focused on multi-generational family travel, this adaptable camp can be converted into a private bush home for family groups of 6-12 people. Glass sky walkways link interconnected luxury family suites.

Varty Camp and Founders Camp are slightly larger and perfect for families and small groups, not belonging to the Relais & Châteaux group. Varty Camp has two superior chalets and eight chalets. The living spaces are raised off the ground and shaded under a cathedral of trees. The camp has a pleasingly down-to-earth quality and the emphasis on family heritage meaning children of six years and older are always welcome.

Founders Camp has seven superior chalets and three family chalets in a fresh, crisp style with thatched roofs and white bed linen. Enchanting, intimate and child-friendly, Founders Camp is ideally situated to provide an insider’s view of the secrets of river life.
