The name Motswari means "to conserve and protect" in Tswana and the owners have held the name to be a promise.

The Motswari Private Game Reserve is in Timbavati Private Nature Reserve. This reserve is famous for its Big Five game-viewing area, which borders the western boundary of Kruger National Park in north-east South Africa. Part of the Greater Kruger Park, the Reserve is 150km² of land protected by the Timbavati Association: every landowner in the area has been encouraged to join in the conservation effort. Today there are over 50 members who have succeeded in restoring the land to its former glory, with diverse and rare wildlife species making the Timbavati their home. The owners promise to each of their future friends who arrive to share in the splendour of an African sunset at this vintage bush lodge.

With 15 luxury-appointed en-suite bungalows, each with air-conditioning, and all offering unrivalled views, guests enjoy a high level of comfort, all complementing the excellent level of service. The naturally-furnished interiors of each bungalow reflect the wonders of nature that exist just outside the windows. On site there is two fully licensed bars, a swimming pool, an art gallery and a library. Meals are taken either at a scenic location out on the trail with a highly trained guide or in the lounge and, depending on the season, evenings can be spent dining in the bush. There is also an internet hotspot and conference room available for those wishing to conduct business during their stay.

The lodge prides itself on the joy and entertainment of living in the unique ecosystem it finds itself in. They don’t have a spa, aside from the pool, but being able to enjoy down time relaxing in an amazing environment. Morning and evening game drives, mid-morning walks, and sleep outs in the reserve in their Giraffes Nest, offering incredible views of the wild life around the Xanatsi Dam. An overnight walking safari has now been added to the Motswari experience for avid bush lovers.
