Spend your Honeymoon enjoying three of South Africa's most iconic experiences

Honeymoons should be about indulgence, romance, superb food and the chance to spoil yourselves completely. This trip embodies that sprit in full, offering a chance to explore three of South Africa’s most iconic destinations, the opportunity to sample its outstanding food and wine culture as well as a safari in its most celebrated of National Parks.

Starting off with an overnight flight in Cape Town, you will have time to visit the Mother City, a jewel in South Africa’s crown, tucked between the imposing bulk of Table Mountain and the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Here you can explore this vibrant, cosmopolitan city, renowned for its excellent restaurants, beautiful beaches, thriving art scene and range of outdoor activities. Collecting a rental car during your time in Cape Town will allow for a trip down to the Cape Peninsula, where a highlight will be seeing the colony of African Penguins at Boulders Beach. It also means that you can easily access your next stop, beautiful Franschhoek, a charming village in the heart of the Cape Winelands, surrounding by vineyards and craggy mountain peaks. Spend a few days here tasting wines, enjoying the excellent restaurants and laid-back way of life that always seems to prevail. For the final leg of your trip drive back to Cape Town airport and drop-off your car before flying up to the Kruger area, the base for your time on safari. Your time on safari will be split between enjoying the outstanding game viewing that the area offers, as well as sitting back in the glorious surroundings of your lodge and being pampered to your heart’s content. After your safari fly back to Johannesburg and connect with your overnight flight to London.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 Cape Town

Land in to Cape Town early this morning – we will ensure you are met off the aircraft and escorted through immigration and baggage collection, before being handed over to a driver who will take you on the 45 minute drive in to the city, with Table Mountain an ever more prominent site as you drive. You will be spending 5 nights at Abbey Manor, a charming little guesthouse in the heart of a quiet residential part of Cape Town. The bulk of Table Mountain looms large overhead and the views across the city and out to sea, with Robben Island visible through the haze, are stunning. Today you can simply relax after the flight, head out for a leisurely lunch or just sit by the pool and let your lunch come to you – worth the treat, it is your Honeymoon after all.

Day 2 - 5 Discover Cape Town

Table Mountain

Take the time to explore the wonderful city of Cape Town and take in everything that it has to offer. The restaurant scene here is thriving, with its history as a major trading port, as well as modern position as a global city meaning cuisine from all over the world is available here, served everywhere from tiny streetside cafes, in beautiful hotels and specifically designed restaurants to delight the senses. Wonderful Cape wines are available everywhere you go, and Cape Town also boasts a thriving craft beer, gin and rum industry. Highlights of any visit to Cape Town include trips to Table Mountain, Robben Island, the V&A Waterfront and the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. It also boasts amazing shopping, for both local and international brands, a range of galleries and museums, as well as lovely beaches at Clifton and Camps Bay. We will have a car delivered to you on day 4 to allow for some exploration further afield. A popular route is to head South on a day trip to the Cape Peninsula, taking in Cape Point, the Cape of Good Hope and Boulders Beach, home to a huge colony of endearing African penguins. To hit the road less-travelled, make your way North, up the Cape West Coast to tiny fishing villages such as Langebaan and Paternoester to get a feel of life away from the city as well as some of the freshest seafood, especially crayfish, that you could wish to enjoy.

Day 6 Franschhoek awaits

Days 7 - 9 Exploring Franschhoek

Day 10 On to safari

Staying at Little Garonga Camp

From Franschhoek you will need to make the short journey back to Cape Town airport to drop off your car and then catch the morning flight up to Hoedspruit, the gateway airport to the Central Kruger area. From Hoedspruit you will be transferred in to the Greater Makalali Conservancy where you will be spending 5 nights at the beautiful Little Garonga – a truly spectacular spot to round off your Honeymoon. Enjoy lunch and some time to relax by the pool before heading out for an afternoon safari in the company of your expert guide. Return to camp after sunset for drinks around the campfire and a delicious dinner before drifting off to sleep with the sounds of the bush all around you.

Days 11 - 14 Safari time and wildlife viewing..

Elephants waterhole

The daily programme at Little Garonga includes morning and afternoon game drives, lasting around 4 hours each with a focus on getting up close and personal with the hugely varied wildlife that the conservancy supports, but without being intrusive or damaging. Big cats, rhino and elephant, as well as wild dog and hyena are spotted on an almost daily basis, along with buffalo, giraffe, zebra, kudu and impala to name but a few. There is also the chance to join “interpretive” bush walks, sleepout on a deck beneath the stars and enjoy a romantic bush bath – plenty to keep you occupied during your stay. In between activities sit back and enjoy the wonderful surroundings of the lodge, which is renowned for its wonderful hospitality, outstanding cuisine and laid-back but well-run atmosphere.

Day 15 The journey home begins

January

January is the perfect time to visit the Cape — hot, dry and buzzing. Lounge on beaches or explore the Winelands and Garden Route in peak summer sun. Inland, it’s the wet season in Kruger, with bursts of heavy rain and vivid green landscapes. It's also the end of the birthing season, attracting predators and creating dramatic wildlife scenes.

February

The hottest month in Cape Town, February is ideal for alfresco lunches in the Winelands or scenic drives along the Garden Route. There are fewer tourists, perfect weather and excellent vineyard experiences. Safari regions remain hot, humid and wet, so it’s better to stick to the coast and cultural highlights at this time of year.

March

March brings settled, sunny days to Cape Town, the Winelands and Garden Route — ideal for laid-back trips and less crowded experiences. In Kruger, the lush landscape and newborn wildlife create brilliant photographic opportunities, with clear skies and dramatic colours. Rainfall eases across the country, making it a great time to combine regions.

April

April’s mild weather and lower visitor numbers make it one of the best months to explore. Cape Town is perfect for hiking Table Mountain or visiting Kirstenbosch Gardens. The Garden Route and Drakensberg are quiet and cool. In Kruger, rutting season begins — male antelope at their most impressive, sparking fierce, fascinating fights.

May

With summer crowds gone and crisp, dry days setting in, May is a peaceful time to travel. Safari viewing improves as vegetation thins in Kruger, and game becomes easier to spot. The Cape has a mix of sunny and rainy days, and the Winelands feel calm and welcoming after the peak season rush.

June

The start of winter brings cool, dry safari conditions — ideal for spotting wildlife clustered around shrinking water sources. Cape Town gets wetter, though days can still be bright. Whale watching begins along the Western Cape, while the Drakensberg is a dream for hikers enjoying fresh air and peaceful trails. Comrades Marathon adds sporting buzz to KwaZulu Natal.

July

July is peak whale watching around Hermanus and Plettenberg Bay, with whales close to shore to calve. It’s also the best time for safaris — cool, dry and clear. Kruger’s wildlife gathers at waterholes, and sightings are exceptional. Cape Town remains cool and drizzly, but it’s a quiet, rewarding time for active or cultural trips.

August

Spring starts to show as wildflowers carpet the West Coast and Namaqualand in vibrant colour — a true spectacle. Game viewing is still strong in Kruger, and whales continue to visit the Cape’s coastline. Temperatures begin rising after winter’s chill, and clear skies return, making this a great time to combine coast, culture and safari.

September

September is superb for combining experiences — wildlife viewing is excellent in Kruger and Madikwe, while whales are frequently seen along the southern coast. Spring flowers are still blooming, and warmer temperatures make outdoor exploration more inviting. In the Drakensberg, snow-capped peaks linger as trails begin to warm up for hiking.

October

October is one of the best all-round months to visit. Cape Town and the Winelands are warming up, with long sunny days and few crowds. Safari conditions remain strong in Kruger and KwaZulu Natal, and the beaches are heating up. Whether you want wildlife, wine or coastline, it’s hard to go wrong this month.

November

Cape Town soaks up the early summer sun, with calm days ideal for exploring. It’s the last chance to see southern right whales before they head off. Inland, the rains return to Kruger and KwaZulu Natal, but afternoon storms are spectacular and short-lived. Visitor numbers increase as the festive season nears — book early.

December

December buzzes with summer energy. The first two weeks are a sweet spot — great weather and fewer crowds. Later in the month, it’s peak holiday season across the country. In Kruger, landscapes burst into colour with flame lilies and baby animals. Book early for Christmas trips — this is one of the most popular times to visit.
