All spacious cottages with uninterrupted lake views
A warm and welcoming lodge in a remote and serene location ideal for fishing, swimming, hiking or community visits in the forest
Kivu Lodge is in a remote and serene location alongside banana, coffee and macadamia plantations on a private peninsula of Lake Kivu in the Karongi District of Rwanda. The lodge takes 25 minutes to reach by helicopter from Kigali International Airport, a two-hour speedboat ride from Rubavu and a one-hour speedboat ride from Kamembe.
There are 20 spacious cottages all with uninterrupted views of the lake and surrounding hills and mountains. The cottages are simply decorated with neutral tones and are furnished with large double beds (an extra bed can be added to make a twin) and cosy bedding for cooler nights. The bathrooms are basic but functional, with flushing toilets and hot showers. The main reception and bar area overlooks the large infinity swimming pool with a small waterfall feature (lit at night). The dining area has doors that open up to the views, and dinner can be eaten inside or outside on the decking or by the fire.
Activities include fishing, swimming and sunset cruises on the Lake Kivu with dinner and cocktail parties on the boat. Guests can also visit coffee and tea plantations and enjoy tasting the produce. Further visits to the local community and Nyungwe Forest can also be arranged, along with hiking through the stunning landscapes.
