Cormoran Lodge

The stylish, yet rustic, Cormoran Lodge is situated on a steep hill on a small plot of land that descends rapidly to the shores of Lake Kivu. Guests who encounter problems walking up steep terrain should possibly avoid staying at Cormoran Lodge as the cabins, main areas and the beach are reached along a network of long steep pathways (lit at night) and steps.

This small intimate lodge is known for its quality of service and friendly staff making it a great spot to relax en-route to Nyungwe Forest National Park. The seven raised, wooden cabins have wonderful views of the lake and the surrounding islands; the VIP cabin has views of the fiery crater of Nyiragongo Volcano in DR Congo. The cabins are simple and rustic with wooden walls, ceilings and floors and a small wooden terrace. The beds are large and can be double or twin. The en-suite bathrooms are spacious and attractively decorated with local lake stones and pebbles. The rooms also feature Wi-Fi, TVs, a minibar and a safe. Supported by stilts and set into the hill, the main central area consists of a large bar, fireplace and seating area with a TV. Dinners take place in the dining room or from a small terrace that provide wonderful views over the lake.

Cormoran Lodge has a very small private man-made beach with a few sun loungers and a campfire, all overlooking the lake. Activities from the lodge include swimming from the nearby Jetty, motorboat rides to the local islands, canoeing or kayaking and water skiing.
