Tongole Wilderness

Tongole Wilderness Lodge is an exciting new eco-tourism venture built deep within the pristine woodlands of the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve. With first-class accommodation, food, service and safari activities for guests, the lodge benefits local communities and the conservation of the Reserve’s wildlife. The only high-end lodge in the Nkhotakota Reserve and with breath-taking views over the beautiful Bua River, it provides a truly exceptional experience of this pristine region. It's approximately a 3½-hour road transfer from Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi, to Tongole, or one hour by light aircraft from Lilongwe to Tongole's airstrip, located five minutes from the lodge.

The accommodation consists of four Riverside Suites and one Family Cottage. Two of the Riverside Suites are equipped with super king-sized beds, while the other two feature twin beds, which can be easily joined to create a super king if required. All of the rooms are en-suite with large sunken baths, which are so big they could be seen as plunge pools! They also have a fantastic wooden deck area offering stunning views over the river and forest. The Family Cottage was built by locals using the same distinctive red earth and rock upon which Tongole stands. The cottage has two bedrooms and a spacious lounge and deck area ideal for a family or two couples travelling together. The main lodge sits spectacularly overlooking the river, frequently visited by elephants, with a swimming pool and restaurant with a fully stocked bar. Dining at Tongole is exceptional, with a hot breakfast, delicious lunch spread, afternoon tea and a four-course dinner to boot.

There is so much to do at the Tongole Wilderness Lodge! Activities include wilderness safaris by foot or 4-wheel drive vehicle, canoe river safaris, fly fishing, fly camping, cultural experiences with the local community, volunteer safaris, bird safaris, and hiking safaris to breath-taking viewpoints.
