Kaya Mawa

Rated by Condé Nast Magazine as one of the world’s 10 most romantic destinations, Kaya Mawa is located on the southwestern tip of Likoma Island in the middle of Lake Malawi, close to Mozambique. Kaya Maya means ‘maybe tomorrow’, setting the tone for your relaxation. The island is covered with mango trees and ancient baobabs and encircled by glorious sandy beaches and rocky coves.

Stone and teak-framed thatched accommodation including two family cottages, nine luxurious houses, ideal for honeymooners, and one four-bedroom villa. Each of the rooms and private villa is designed to be completely unique and have been individually named. All rooms are en-suite and have private decks and views of the lake, some have private plunge pools and the villas even has a private beach and in-house chef. The Kaya Mawa restaurant is set to one side of the bar and is used for breakfast and lunches offering fantastic sunset views all the way to the south of the lake.

The numerous water sports on offer at Kaya Mawa include paddle boarding, kayaking, kitesurfing, water skiing and sailing; plus, a full PADI dive school. Walking or biking around the island is a great way to meet friendly locals and visit the cathedral, local school and lively market nearby.
