Chintheche Inn

Chintheche Inn lies on the western shore of Lake Malawi. It is surrounded by white sands, warm clear waters and old fishing villages. The distant Viphya Mountains form a dramatic backdrop to an area that boasts some of the finest beaches on the entire lake. The surrounding area is characterised by pristine, palm-fringed beaches and dotted by fishing villages and patches of lowland tropical forest. Lake Malawi is Africa’s third largest and second deepest lake.

The accommodation is set in lush gardens and comprises 10 brightly furnished en-suite rooms and a two-bedroomed family cottage. The rooms are furnished with local crafts and open out onto a patio and grass lawn that slopes to the beach. There is a central dining area and bar, and meals often take place (weather permitting) under the stars or in a shady corner of the garden. There is a large pool, and campsites are discreetly situated in the ample gardens.

Activities include excellent swimming, snorkelling, and water sports on the lake, while on land you can enjoy mountain biking, bird watching, horse riding and visits to local villages for cultural tours. Chintheche Inn is a close enough drive for a scenic day trip to Nkhata Bay, a harbour town, or south to historic Bandawe. It is impossible to leave untouched by the warmth and friendliness of the Malawian people.
