A family-run guesthouse with stunning gardens set back from the banks of the Chobe river.
LOCATION: The Garden Lodge sits on the banks of the Chobe River in Kasane, just two kilometres from Chobe National Park. This charming, family-run lodge is surrounded by lush gardens filled with fruit trees and flowers that attract an array of birdlife, creating a calm and intimate base from which to explore northern Botswana. Victoria Falls is about an hour and a half away by road, making it an ideal stop on a wider safari circuit.
ROOMS: With just eight rooms, including three family suites, The Garden Lodge offers an intimate atmosphere for a maximum of 22 guests. Each room features locally crafted teak and mukwa furniture, air conditioning, a fan, en-suite shower room, mosquito net, and a private veranda overlooking the Chobe River. The style is homely and understated, with neutral tones and subtle African décor adding warmth and comfort.
AMENITIES: The two-storey main building houses a dining area, lounge, and bar, all open to the gardens and river views. There’s a swimming pool for cooling off in the afternoon, a boma for al fresco dinners under the stars, and a shady terrace for afternoon tea. Homemade bread, jams and honeys are a highlight of the menu, and meals are often shared together, creating a friendly atmosphere with a chance to swap safari stories. Free Wi-Fi, mains electricity, and laundry service are available for guests’ convenience.
ACTIVITIES: Days at The Garden Lodge centre around exploring Chobe National Park, either by open vehicle on early morning game drives or by boat on the Chobe River in the late afternoon. The park’s 140,000 elephants are a true spectacle, along with large herds of buffalo, giraffe, and regular sightings of lion. Birdwatching is excellent both in the park and within the lodge’s own gardens. Fishing trips and day excursions to Victoria Falls can also be arranged.
SUSTAINABILITY: The Garden Lodge is designed to blend gently with its surroundings, maintaining a light footprint through small-scale operations and thoughtful resource use. Local staff, fresh home-cooked meals, and support for nearby conservation activities reflect its commitment to the community and environment.
