My name is Kitty and I decided to do my work experience at Far and Wild as the travel industry seemed to tie into lots of my interests and A-level options with thoughts about marketing for the future. And after all who does not like the idea of designing dream holidays for people? Luckily, my parents knew Ben the founder of Far and wild previously so they got in touch, and he kindly said I could see how it all works.

So, for the last couple of days, I have been welcomed to the Far and Wild office. It was my first time in an office environment, so I had no clue what to expect. However, I was greeted by a warm and welcoming staff group with an organized itinerary helping me feel more prepared.

We started off my first day with an email to all the Far and Wild team both in the London office and remotely. With this I was taught how to address a wider group of people in a less formal setting compared to school. Having to talk about my interests, future, and own travel this felt like quite a big first challenge, but I got some lovely quick responses from the whole team welcoming me and offering me the opportunity to ask any questions about their part in the business.

I was then given the Far and Wild website and told to make notes on it regarding first thoughts, ability to navigate and information placement. With then comparing it to competitors to see what we are doing well and what inspiration we can take. In particular I enjoyed researching about the trips, my favourites were:

Guatemala Family Adventure

Namibia Affordable Fly-In Safari

I then did a mini pitch to the marketing team discussing what I had gathered. This seemed to be beneficial to them as it was a fresh pair of eyes, and it would be how a customer would view the website.

To continue the competitor research, I discussed social media with them asking for views from a younger perspective. We debated on the different forms of social media; how different content gets different messages across and how and who we wanted to market to. We were again interested in what other companies are doing and how they are currently succeeding with thought about Instagram adverts as a potential investment in advertisement of the company.

Gemma on the marketing team then helped me with Canva, mostly creating reels as we decided that is what other companies were doing to increase publicity. At first, I was messing around understanding how things work. Then I created reels which I thought have a successful lay out then learnt how I would post them on to Instagram.

I completed my work experience looking at other blogs on the websites to seek inspiration for my very own. With my blog I hope to give people who want to do work experience at far and wild an insight. Along with the trust that there is a wonderful and efficient team on the other side of the website truly wanting the best experience for the customer. So overall, it has been a fun and interactive taster to the working world and had truly inspired me to really have a think about travel industry for the future.
