Governors Camp

Set in the very beautiful northwest corner of the Masai Mara reserve, the Governors Camp is an original, deluxe, large tented camp. The stunning location, friendly staff and great service ensure guests return to enjoy year-round wildlife viewing. Almost a century ago the area was reserved exclusively for Kenya’s colonial Governors. It is the most popular of the three Governors camps in the Mara area.

The camp has 37 tents lining the riverbank of the famous Mara river tucked amongst the forest with views either over the river or across the sweeping plains of the Masai Mara. The camp is unfenced, meaning you can sit on your private tent veranda with your morning coffee and watch the wildlife grazing the plains before you. Everything is under canvas; all tents have polished wooden floors and en-suite indoor bathrooms with hot and cold running water and toilets. The main tent holds the spacious bar area including deck seating overlooking the Mara River while the dining tent boasts magnificent views of the plains.

Fantastic morning and afternoon game drives with the camp's highly experienced guides are a must here and hot air balloon trips departing from Little Governors Camp nearby offer a magical and unique view of the Mara's grassy savannas and its inhabitants. Bush meals, spa days, Masai cultural visits and overnight visits to Lake Victoria are also all possible. When not out on game drives enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in camp and visit the Butterfly Garden, an area as big as a badminton court of specially planted flowers to attract many species of bright and beautiful butterflies!
