Desert Homestead Outpost

Found in a remote corner of the sprawling Namib Desert, overlooking the rugged peaks of the Naukluft Mountains, Desert Homestead Outpost is one of the most authentic properties in the region, offering guests a traditional under canvas stay experience.

In all there are 12 rooms here, 10 standard chalets, 1 superior chalet and a large family suite. The standard chalets are traditional safari tents raised up on decks with thatch rooves which provide protection from the heat of the desert. Floor to ceiling glass doors at the front offer stunning views out across the plains, whilst the covered decks at the front are the ideal spot to spend the afternoon relaxing. Inside they are compact but very comfortable with hardwood floors, mosquito net draped beds and well-appointed en-suite bathrooms. The superior room is larger and more luxurious, with additional features such as private swimming pool and large decking area with a covered day bed as well as an indoor sitting area. The family room has two separate bedrooms and a sitting area, accommodating up to 4 guests. The main lodge area is spacious and very comfortable, with an outdoor swimming pool, lounge and bar area as well as a central fireplace where guests can warm themselves on the cold desert nights.

With visits to the dunes available on a self-drive basis or with one of the excellent in-house guides, as well as visits to the Sesriem Canyon and drives in the Namib Desert, the lodge offers the quintessential Sossusvlei experience. Horseriding trails, including ones with overnight camping are also possible from this unique property.
