Walking safaris on Etosha’s eastern frontier

Onguma Trails Camp offers a unique 2–3 night walking trail experience in a private Namibian reserve, blending barefoot adventure with glamping comfort.

Location: Located in a previously unused area of Onguma Nature Reserve on Etosha’s eastern border, Trails Camp lies within a 34 000 ha conservation area. The camp is accessed via a short transfer from Onguma Forest Camp, immersing guests in remote wilderness with no mobile signal. It’s the first walking‑only camp near big game in Namibia

Rooms: Featuring four spacious en‑suite glamping bell tents set in thicker, biodiverse woodland, the camp sleeps up to eight guests. Each tent includes an extra‑length bed, rich bedding, an outdoor hot‑bucket shower, compost loo, private wood‑fired hot tub, and a seating area to soak in tranquil bush views

Amenities: Communal experiences take place in a canvas mess tent where guests gather for shared meals and campfire evenings. The camp is entirely off-grid, powered by solar energy, and uses eco-friendly toiletries and water-saving practices.

Activities: Guided by accredited Field Guides Association of Southern Africa instructors, guests can join 6–10 km daily walking safaris that teach tracking, bush botany, ecology and animal signs. Highlights include bush breakfasts, sundowner walks, and nights under the stars with educational boma dinners. A 3‑night extension adds a walk along a riverbed or a sunrise drive.

Sustainability: Trails Camp aligns with Onguma’s eco-conscious ethos—solar power, composting toilets, bucket showers heated by donkey boilers, and no plastic waste. Satellite communication enables safety without permanent infrastructure. The camp supports conservation through education and minimal environmental impact.
