Our specialists say:

Immerse yourselves in the water-based safaris in some of Botswana’s most exclusive and hi-luxe lodges.

Treat yourselves to the ultimate luxury safari in Botswana for Valentine’s Day this year for your honeymoon. Indulge in three nights in the crème-de-la-crème of exclusive wildlife viewing lodge, Mombo Camp on the northern tip of Chief’s Island in the heart of the Okavango Delta.

Following Mombo, we’ve really pushed the boat out with two nights traversing the Chobe River on the Zambezi Queen – a 42-metre luxury houseboat offering unparalleled sophistication on the water. From the comfort of your suite onboard, photograph elephants drinking from the river. These banks boast one of the densest populations of elephant on the African continent.

The last main element sees you following Nat Geo photographers' footsteps at Zarafa Camp, in the Selinda Private Reserve, a Unique Lodges of the World member.

This itinerary is relatively slow paced, with nights to rest and revive on arrival and before departure – if you prefer a different, slightly faster pace of travel, we can adjust any element to suit. Transfers can be via helicopters, or private chartered flights. This suggestion is 11 nights, 14 days with international travel time included:

  • 1 night Maun Cresta Lodge, Presidential Suite, Central Botswana
  • 3 nights Mombo Camp, Okavango Delta, Botswana
  • 2 nights on the Zambezi Queen houseboat
  • 3 nights Zarafa Camp, private Selinda Reserve
  • 2 nights Maun Cresta Lodge, Presidential Suite

The itinerary…

Day 1: Feb 2nd

Flight to Botswana

Check in at the Virgin Atlantic desk at London Heathrow for your overnight flight to Johannesburg, South Africa where you’ll land in the early hours of the morning. After a short connection, you will connect to your 2-hour flight to Maun, Botswana.

Day 2: Feb 3rd

Welcome to Africa

On arrival to Maun airport at about midday, you shall be met and transferred in a private car to Maun Cresta Lodge where you shall stay in a Presidential Suite for one night. You’ll be in the modern comforts of the hotel, just 25 minutes from the airport, but a world away from London where you were just hours previously.

Your first afternoon can be spent relaxing, to recover some energy after the international journey, or set out on your first safari activity booked directly through the Lodge on arrival depending on how energetic you’re feeling!

Day 3: Feb 4th

Into the Delta

After breakfast, you will be transferred back to Maun airport where you’ll take the morning scenic light-aircraft flight to Mombo airstrip on the northern tip of Chief’s Island in the heart of the Okavango Delta. Enjoy the views as you fly low over this dramatic scenery of waterways and lush riverine forest.

Upon arrival at the airstrip, you’ll be met by your highly experienced Mombo guide who will take you the 15-minutes to Mombo Camp. You will be warmly greeted to your new home for the next three nights. Welcome to this secret paradise of stylish, spacious and elegantly furnished rooms. Your rate includes all meals, drinks (except champagne), activities and transfers.

Day 4-5: Feb 5th-6th

Wonderful Wildlife

Time to step into the Delta wilderness with your expert guide and explore the waterways for full or half day trips. This area is known as the crème-de-la-crème of water-based safari activities, giving you total isolation and opportunity to see wildlife from a unique perspective.

This camp offers abundant big game viewing, arguably among the best in Botswana. Lion sightings are particularly good, and guests can also see leopard, large herds of buffalo, cheetah, wild dog, elephant, hyena, giraffe, wildebeest and zebra. Black and white rhino have been reintroduced with outstanding success to the area (albeit most are further away from camp), thanks to the Botswana Rhino Reintroduction Programme.

Day 6-7: 7th-8th

Scenic Flight and Voyage

After an early morning game activity and bush breakfast, you’ll take to the skies for your return scenic light-aircraft flight out of Mombo, to Kasane in Northern Botswana’s Chobe area, where you’ll be met by a Zambezi Queen representative who will help with your luggage and transfer you by road and then boat to the scheduled departure point.

Check in from 1pm to the 42-metre luxury houseboat offering unparalleled sophistication. Onboard the Zambezi Queen you can enjoy a truly unique and adventurous river safari holiday while still being surrounded by complete comfort and elegance. Aside from elephants, the Park is also home to many buffalo, leopard and lion, along with a variety of antelope and abundant bird life including fish eagles.

Day 8-10: Feb 9th-11th

Overlooking the Lagoon

Enjoy breakfast on your last morning on the Chobe River houseboat before being transferred back to Kasane airport, ready for your light aircraft flight into Selinda airstrip. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by Zarafa Camp staff for your 45-minute game drive to camp named by National Geographic as a Unique Lodges of the World member. On the eastern side of the private Selinda Reserve, on the edge of the huge Zibadianja Lagoon, step into your marquee tent where you’ll sleep the next three nights. Your rate includes all meals, drinks and activities. Sheltered under giant ebony and ivory trees, the quintessential style has earned the property Relais & Chateaux status.

Game-viewing here is predominantly land-based, offering a change of pace from the houseboat you were just cruising on. Over the next three days you will have the chance to try day and night game drives, as well as short guided walks accompanied by armed guides.

Day 11-13: Feb 12th-14th

Rest and Rejuvenate

Depart in the morning on a wonderfully scenic light aircraft flight over the lagoons to arrive at Maun airport where you’ll be met and transferred back to the Maun Cresta Presidential Suite. Your private guide will highlight the intricacies of the unique ecosystem of the area surrounding you, at a pace entirely dictated by you. No early morning wake-ups, unless you choose… Embark on some souvenir shopping, cultural excursions and enjoy lavish meals.

**Valentine’s Day**

On Valentine’s Day itself, we suggest this is an ideal opportunity to enjoy a 45-minute open sided helicopter flight over the Delta, another unique way to view the landscape and wildlife within.

You’ll then check-out and say your goodbyes to the Botswanan staff as you are transferred back to Maun airport to check in for your afternoon flight to Johannesburg for your return overnight flight to London Heathrow.
