See the Big Five whilst out on horseback, go wild camping in the bush, or take on an adventurous multi-day hiking trail for the ultimate safari experience.

No Africa trip would be complete without an adventure in search of big game and there are few places better for this than on a Botswana walking safari or active adventure tour. Choose a trip that involves ‘wild camping’, staying with basic facilities and getting a true wilderness experience. Ask us about our extensive range of walking safaris or try seeing the Big Five whilst out on horseback.

Botswana Horse Riding Safaris are the ultimate adventure holiday in Botswana, with superb game viewing, expert guides and well-schooled horses all at your disposal. Mounted high above the long grass you’ll have the best seats in the house for wildlife spotting across the floodplains, where herds of zebras and lechwe are quite a spectacle. Picture yourself cantering alongside elegant giraffes, one of the most intimate encounters you can have on safari. Several multi-day horse riding safaris in Botswana are available, so just talk to us to find out which will suit you best. The majority take place in the contrasting landscapes of the Okavango Delta and the Makgadikgadi Pans, whilst those looking for a more budget-conscious experience should head to the Tuli Block, which equals the Okavango when it comes to wildlife, and has slightly less luxurious camps.

The Chitabe Walking Trail offers a fantastic opportunity for a genuine bush hiking experience for those who want to really immerse themselves in nature. Set in one of the best areas in the Okavango for walking, the adventurous trail wends its way through different habitats. You’ll be accompanied by an armed guide and will spend one or two nights camping out in the bush, at hides located in different parts of the Chitabe Reserve. One is hidden in woodland on the edge of an impressive pan, known for its elephants, whilst the other is on the edge of a floodplain. Sleep under mosquito nets and enjoy simple but tasty meals cooked over the campfire, whilst marvelling at the stunning African night skies. It really doesn’t get any wilder than this. Each experience is tailor-made to suit guest requirements and abilities.

Elephant walks at Stanley’s or Baines’ camp, situated in a private concession in the southern Okavango Delta. The camps offer all the usual game viewing activities as well as the unique opportunity to walk with two or three semi-habituated elephants. Abu Camp offers a similar activity with their elephants although they are more habituated.

Quad biking is a fun way to explore the Makgadikgadi Pans. Jack's Camp and its satellite San Camp are located deep in the Kalahari Desert on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans, the largest salt pans in the world. These luxury camps are stunning outposts of desert chic, and as well as offering some interesting wildlife, they provide an opportunity to venture into the impenetrable pans on quad bikes or ATVs.

Action and Adventure at Victoria Falls. Whilst not in Botswana (the falls are on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe), the Victoria Falls are only an hour from Chobe National Park, and are the adventure capital of southern Africa. If you want a few days of activity at the start or end of a Botswana Safari, then Victoria Falls is the place.

Hot air ballooning over the Delta from Vumbura or Mapula; Helicopter rides with a stop off for a glass of bubbly on a private island; Cycling safaris in the Tuli Block; Special photographic guiding and tuition; Canoeing on the Chobe River…the list goes on. Please contact us for details to make your special trip a little bit different.
