A subtropical wonderland
The annual monsoon transforms the desert terrain into a lush green landscape with seasonal waterfalls
Salalah is a colourful subtropical city owing its character to Oman's former territories in East Africa. Visitors from mid-June to mid-August will experience fine drizzle, resulting in the surrounding desert plains transforming into a lush grassy oasis where huge herds of cattle, goats and camels graze. The monsoon season is the only time of year when the waterfalls around Salalah can be seen under the engulfing mists. All year round, Salalah has coconut-fringed beaches, with Mugsayl Beach being one of our personal favourites. We recommend strolling across the impressive stretch of beach - one of the best in the gulf! If you're looking for action, beach buggys can be hired at Al Baleed Salalah to zoom up and down the sand, enjoying the ocean spray.
