Down on the eastern edge of the south coast, beautiful Yala is Sri Lanka’s most popular national park, and for good reason. It’s here that you are most likely to spot the Sri Lankan leopard, and this large open reserve is also home to a huge range of other wildlife.
There's a fantastic variety of accommodation in Yala, from super luxurious lodges to authentic safari camping experiences. It must be said that Yala is slightly a victim of its own success, as the areas of the park with the best wildlife sightings can often be crowded with other tourists in jeeps. For this reason it’s always a good idea to venture away from the main sections of the park, and enjoy a more peaceful jungle experience where wildlife may be less dense but you'll hopefully have it all to yourself.
