Living Heritage Koslanda

Once upon a time there was a Sri Lankan film director whose dream it was to create a space where he could preserve the country's natural biodiversity and traditional heritage. He wanted to give his guests the gift of tranquility, to breathe, re-energise and heal. And so Living Heritage Koslanda was born.

A stay here is all about peacefulness and rest. All buildings on the site have been constructed using traditional architecture and positioned according to astrological lore. The 6 rooms and suites are all different, with beautiful local decoration and comfortable beds. The open-sided Forest Pavilions have spectacular forest views, whilst the Pepper Garden Cottage just exudes rustic romance, and the Luxury Villa Suites boast open air bathrooms and private plunge pools. The main infinity pool is one of the best in Sri Lanka, with beautiful mountain views all around.

Dining at Living Heritage Koslanda is fusion of fresh flavours, all sourced from their organic garden and local farms. Meals are served in the traditional Sri Lankan Dining Ambalama where you can chat with other guests, or if you prefer a more intimate affair, the staff can arrange a candle lit dinner or even a picnic lunch hamper that you can take with you to enjoy by their private waterfall. Cooking classes can be arranged with the chef, who will teach you the basics of making a Sri Lankan feast, the results of which you get to eat for lunch.

There are some great hikes through the local tea estate as well as tea factory tours, and trails can also take you around local villages or up to the waterfall close to the hotel. A 35 minute drive will enable you to visit an ancient Buddhist temple called the Budruwagala which has the largest standing rock Buddhas in the country, dating back to the 9th century.
