Chamba Camp - Thiksey

Hidden away in the mountainous state of Ladakh, Chamba Camp is in a stunning location, surrounded by blue skies, lakes, beautiful valleys and snow-capped mountains. The period décor and furniture of this camp, along with the itineraries are designed to give guests the feeling of being on an early 19th century explorer's expedition, whilst at the same time maintaining a high level of luxury. The best way of reaching the camp is by aircraft, from Delhi airport to Leh and then a short road transfer to camp.

The camp offers 11 luxury suite tents and 3 presidential suite tents. All are spacious and comprise of a bedroom, en-suite bathroom and a veranda. The presidential suite tents have a king sized bed as well as a large single bed, with room for an extra single bed if required. All accommodation has heating and air conditioning. Main areas include a spacious reception tent, complete with a wi-fi zone, that contains a small library, a lobby and a gift shop. There is also a dining tent that offers both indoor and outdoor seating and a bakery. Cuisine here is excellent, using local recipes from the chef's family as well as international fusion dishes. A complimentary butler service is also available.

The camp offers a wide range of activities, from cultural experiences such as tours of monasteries and Leh Palace, as well as visits to local hamlets for wildlife based activities such as bird watching. All ground arrangements are with a private tour manager, chauffeur and vehicle. There are also a variety of sports activities such as water rafting on the Indus river, archery and horse polo. Alternatively, there is a plethora of hiking trails, with guests having the option of going for a short stroll or for a longer, more strenuous hike. A visit to Wari La is another activity that shouldn't be missed - it's the world's 4th highest road, and you have the choice of either cycling or being driven to it.
