Ethiopia is an exceptional destination in which to attend special cultural events. Its most spectacular festivals are Timket, held every January (18th - 19th) and Meskel (Finding of the True Cross) which takes place in September (26th - 27th) .
Do check out our Ethiopia small group set departures which are structured especially so as to enable guests attendance of these amazing events. For Timket, we'll arrange for a knowledgeable guide to take you to witness the Ketera (start of the celebrations on the afternoon and evening of the 18th January) and then the continuation of festivities that night and the following day. For Meskel, we'll take you to the city centre on the Eve of Meskel (26th September) as it is then that the bonfire or Demera, topped with yellow Meskel daisies, is set alight amid festivities.
While they are celebrated all along the very popular Historical Route of northern Ethiopia, we prefer to have our guests attend both festivities in Addis Ababa, as that is where their magnitude is most impressive.
