A slick, all-inclusive resort on Zanzibar’s northeast coast, designed for relaxed beach time with plenty of choice built in.
Set along Muyuni Beach in Matemwe, The Mora in Zanzibar is a sizeable, modern resort with a broad appeal, couples, families and groups all fit comfortably here.
Location: Positioned on a long stretch of white sand on Zanzibar’s quieter northeast coast, the setting feels open and spacious rather than tucked away. The beach is tidal, typical for this side of the island, but beautifully wild at low tide. Mnemba Island is nearby, and Stone Town is about an hour away by road.
Rooms: All accommodation is suite-based, which gives it a more elevated feel than many resorts of this size. Expect contemporary interiors with a light coastal touch, king-size beds, generous bathrooms and either a balcony or terrace. Higher categories add whirlpools or private pools, and there are good family options with two-bedroom layouts.
Amenities: This is where the hotel really leans in. There are multiple pools, a full spa and wellness centre, gym, tennis courts and a proper watersports setup. Dining is varied, with several restaurants ranging from buffet to à la carte and Asian fusion, plus beach clubs and bars. The all-inclusive model is flexible and well executed rather than restrictive.
Activities: You could easily stay put for a week without repeating yourself. Snorkelling, diving and non-motorised watersports are all on hand, alongside yoga, fitness classes and evening entertainment. For something beyond the resort, spice tours, Stone Town visits and dhow trips can all be arranged.
Sustainability: Like many larger resorts, this is less about a deeply embedded conservation story and more about operational measures. There is some focus on local sourcing, particularly in food, and spa treatments use regional ingredients, but this is not a leading sustainability property in the way smaller lodges can be.
Overall, this is a good option if you want space, choice and ease. We recommend it for clients looking for a straightforward beach stay after safari, where everything is taken care of and there is enough going on to keep different ages happy.

Temperatures during May are high, with strong winds and continual rainfall. If you travel during this time you won't witness the best of Zanzibar.
